Memorials & Trees

Memorials

To maintain the rural character of the Burial Ground and comply with planning requirements all headstones must be horizontal, be in local stone and of the same design (size 75cm x 60cm). These must be approved and purchased through the Friends of Nature Burial Ground. Each layout is designed individually to your requirements.

  • All memorials must be of the same size - 75cm x 60cm
  • All memorials must have a border of the same design
  • All memorials must be purchased through Friends of Nature Burial Ground to ensure that council planning permission is complied with.
  • All inscriptions must be approved by Friends of Nature Burial Ground.
  • All memorials must be from a local quarry and of natural gritstone to ensure low carbon footprint.

Trees

We usually hold our annual tree planting in early December.

 

Only trees native to Britain are permitted and all must be supplied by ourselves.

 

Choice of trees:

  • Silver Birch (Betula pendula)
  • Bird Cherry (Prunus padus)
  • Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia)
  • Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus)

Permissions and Other Items

Please be aware that all memorials, trees and any other items, such as benches, must be approved by Friends of Nature Burial Ground. 

Items including (but not limited to) fences, ceramic or glass items, photographs, cuddly toys and balloons are not permitted.

 

Friends of Nature Burial Ground accept no responsibility for unauthorised items, ornaments, memorials or plants.
